Tips to Make Your Kitchen Feel More Luxurious

While luxury is often conflated with expensiveness or self-indulgence, we believe its core meaning is simpler than that. In our opinion, to be luxurious means to be extremely comfortable or elegant. It means creating a space that you genuinely enjoy.

Any renovation or upgrade will have some kind of expense attached to it. But there are plenty of tips and tricks you can use to transform your kitchen into an elegant and stylish space without breaking the bank.

Select Ceiling Height Cabinets

Extending your cabinets to the ceiling transforms your space in a myriad of ways. It draws the eye upward and helps ceilings look taller as well as increasing your storage capacity.

The extra space can be used to store items that aren’t used on a regular basis so you won’t be inconvenienced by the high height of the shelves. As an added bonus: no more dust accumulating on top of your cabinets!

Add Crown Molding

Crown molding has the ability to transform simple custom cabinetry into a high-end custom look without having to change the cabinetry itself. It adds detail and height without being overly decorative or complex, and it goes with many different style cabinets and kitchens. Additionally, if your cabinets are already close to the ceiling but don’t quite reach, crown molding is the perfect way to span that gap and give the cabinets a finished look.

Add Under Cabinet Lighting & Light Rails

Adding under cabinet lighting concealed with a light rail is an excellent way of enhancing your kitchen lighting. Light rails provide a barrier from the light glare that comes from lights at eye level while also concealing under-cabinet light fixtures. This feature adds a high end look to your kitchen without adding significantly to the cost of your renovation.

Make Your Island As Big As Possible

A large kitchen island is a great place to add functionality to your kitchen while making a statement. An island’s main purpose may be to add extra seating or room for cooking prep, but it can also be a centerpiece of your kitchen design. It’s a great place to show off custom woodwork, cabinets in an accent color, or showcase beautiful sink hardware.

Use Drawer Bases on Each Side of the Range

One of the most practical yet elegant solutions to keep your kitchen clutter free is to include drawer bases on each side of the range. The drawers can be used to store pots, pans, and cooking utensils. Everything you need will be within arm’s reach but out of sight when not in use, leaving your countertops pristine and adding a luxurious and elegant aesthetic.

Additionally, flanking the range with drawer base cabinets provides symmetry to the range wall. Add an elegant range hood, and you’ve got a custom look.

Add Glass to the Upper Cabinets

If you’re looking for a practical way to display fragile glassware or just brighten up a room, adding glass to the upper cabinets will elevate the look of your kitchen. Placing in-cabinet lighting behind the cabinets will make your kitchen seem as though it’s illuminated from within. Even if you don’t use interior cabinet lighting, glass reflects light on its own, which helps brighten your space.

Glass upper cabinets can also be used to highlight finer pieces of glassware. They’ll function as decorative elements of your kitchen while remaining protected and free of dust.

Choose Panel Ready Appliances

Paneling your appliances makes for a high end look and is a great way to give your kitchen a uniform and consistent look. By matching your fridge and dishwasher to your cabinetry, your kitchen will both look and feel bigger. The flow of the room won’t be interrupted by the different shapes and colors of your appliances.

Add A Range Hood

Cabinetry-grade range hoods can integrate seamlessly with the rest of your kitchen and serve as an excellent focal point. They’re the perfect spot to add a design element of interest to elevate the overall look of your kitchen.

We recommend making the hood six inches wider than the range to add to the overall presence of the range wall and draw attention to any decorative elements of the hood.

Range hoods can be custom-made to accommodate most kinds of ducted hood vent inserts. After you select which model of range hood you’ll use in your kitchen, be sure to share those specifications with your cabinet company.

Add Trim or Paneling to Your Island

Adding trim to your kitchen island’s end and back panels rather than having only finished cabinet sides is a great way to give the island a custom look without taking up additional space.

You can achieve this look by adding shaker style trim or doing something more decorative like adding shiplap or a wooden panel in an “X” shape. Extending the panels so that they reach the depth of the full counter is another customization option that makes the island look more substantial and ensures that it is the statement piece of your kitchen.
